Nic Karkabe – Head Master
With over 33 years of continuous training and experience, Master Nic Karkabe began his martial arts & gymnastics training in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1985. His gymnastics career began under the tutelage of Rob Smiley. In 1988 his family moved to upstate New York where he resumed his training at Klee’s Taekwondo. After achieving red belt, Master K began training with Vietnam veteran, Master Danny Grant. Master Grant received his 6th Dan Kukkiwon & 7th Dan Chung Do Kwan black belt from Grand Master Sung Jae Park of Indiana – one of the only men in the world to hold a 9th Dan in both the World Taekwondo Federation as well as the International Taekwondo Federation.
Master K achieved his 5th Dan World Taekwondo Federation black belt in Chung Do Kwan Taekwondo in the fall of 2005 under Master Danny Grant. In 2013 Master K earned the rank of black belt eligible in Jido Kwan/Olympic style in order to formally modernize his curriculum. Finally, his transitional, take down, and ground fighting game (brazilian jiu jitsu, judo, chung do kwan mma throws, chokes, take downs) – is a lifelong, on-going process.
Kristi Frickenstein – Instructor
Instructor & Enrollment Director Kristi Frickenstein has over 20 years of martial arts experience. She is a World Taekwondo Federation Kukkiwon 3rd degree black belt and holds a 2nd degree in WTF Chung Do Kwan. Married to an Air Force officer, Instructor Kristi’s family has moved a great deal over the years, presenting her with the challenge in finding a new school with each assignment. This has also given her a unique opportunity to see many types and styles of teaching. She feels this has given her the ability to learn how to teach and encourage students to strive for excellence in all that they do. Since returning to the Springs Instructor Kristi chose Blue Wave Taekwondo Academy as her home for martial arts and would love to share her enthusiasm and over 20 years of experience with you and your family.
